The philosopher shows the logical and mathematical aporias of Calculatores which troubles the concept of reaction, placed at the origin of the dynamics of mixtio.
Pomponazzi instead intends to re-establish an equilibrium within the Aristotelian physics.
On the other hand, he shares the same intellectual limits of Calculatores about the mathematization of the physical world.
His proposal to translate in arithmetic differences the relations between intensio and remissio is arbitrary and unjustified, as well as that of the Oxford logicians.
The Quaestio de actione reali marginally addresses the Anti-calculatorian controversy.
The quaestio concerns an issue related to the reaction theory: to establish the role of species spirituales, imagines of the primae qualitates aroused by material bodies.
Pomponazzi excludes the possibility that the intentional species (images subsisting in the human mind) could produce immediately, without the intervention of appropriate instruments, a real thing.

Pietro Pomponazzi, detto il Peretto, nacque a Mantova il 16 settembre 1462.
Studiò presso l'Università di Padova dal 1484, e si addottorò in artibus nel 1487.
Insegnò a Padova dal 1488 al 1496.
La composizione del Tractatus de maximo et minimo ad Laurentium Molinum, tramandato in forma manoscritta, è anteriore al 1496.
Dal 1496 al 1499, come insegnante di logica, Pomponazzi seguì Alberto Pio di Carpi in esilio a Ferrara.
Dal 1499 al 1509 ritornò a Padova per insegnare.
Dal 1510 al 1511 si ritirò a Mantova.
Dal 1512 al 1524 insegnò presso l'Università di Bologna.
Esistono numerose redazioni manoscritte dei corsi pomponazziani a opera dei suoi allievi ed estimatori.
A Bologna, Pomponazzi pubblicò tutti i suoi trattati: il Tractatus de intensione et remissione formarum (1514), il Tractatus de reactione con la Quaestio de actione reali (1515), il Tractatus de immortalitate animae (1516), l'Apologia (1518), il Defensorium (1519), il Tractatus de nutritione et augmentatione (1521).
Due testi rimasero inediti: il De incantationibus e il De fato, ultimati nel 1520 e pubblicati postumi, rispettivamente, nel 1556 e nel 1567.
Anche le Dubitationes in IV Meteorologicorum furono pubblicate postume nel 1563.
La raccolta dei Tractatus acutissimi, utillimi et mere peripatetici, che include i sei trattati bolognesi e la Quaestio de actione reali, fu stampata a Venezia nel 1525.
Pomponazzi morì il 18 maggio 1525 a Bologna.

Two texts remained unpublished: De incantationibus and De fato, composed in 1520 circa and published posthumously, respectively, in 1556 and in 1567.
The Dubitationes in IV Meteorologicorum was published posthumously in 1563.
The collection of the Tractatus acutissimi, utillimi et mere peripatetici, including the six Bononian treatises and Quaestio de actione reali, was printed in Venice in 1525.
Pomponazzi died in Bologna, on May 18th, 1525.
