Questo opuscolo, attribuito a Hermes Abhaidimon, «quasi unico dei filosofi benedetti da Dio», riporta i caratteri di quindici stelle fisse, ciascuna associata con una gemma, una pianta e una immagine magica sulle quali esercita le sue influenze.

La distribuzione degli argomenti - nella sequenza stelle, pietre, piante e immagini - scandiscono il testo in quattro parti, giustificando la denominazione, in alcuni manoscritti, del titolo Quadripartitum Hermetis.

Non possediamo né l'originale greco dell'opera, né la traduzione latina da esso derivata. Unico testimone testuale è per noi la traduzione latina di una sintesi con annotazioni attribuita a Masha'allah.

La diversa consistenza dei singoli capitoli indica una perdita di dati rispetto all'originale, a cui si aggiungono evidenti casi di interpolazione e non poche contraddizioni interne.

Sulla diffusione del testo, una testimonianza importante si trova nella Confessio amantis di John Gower, dove un elenco di stelle, erbe e pietre sembra derivare proprio dal De XV Stellis.

This booklet, attributed to Hermes Abhaidimon, «almost unique among the philosophers blessed by God», relates the characters of fifteen fixed stars, each one exerting influence on an associated gem, plant and magic image.

The items arrangement - in order: stars, stones, plants and images - articulate the text in four parts, justifying the title of Quadripartitum Hermetis, found in some manuscripts.

We do not have neither the Greek original, nor its Latin translation. To us, the only extent codex is the Latin translation of a kind of synthesis with annotations attributed to Masha'allah.

The different chapters substance reveals a loss of information from the original, added to evident interpolations and several inner contradictions.

About the diffusion of the text, an interesting evidence can be found in John Gower's Confessio amantis, where a catalogue of stars, herbs and stones seems derived from De XV Stellis itself.
